| Did you check the master/slave configuration on each? |

Hi-thanks for replying. When I start pc the cdrw is the secondary
device, if that makes sense. How does one check master/slave config?
Is it the tiny section at the back you put the plastic part on ? |

I can't get a clear picture from your message. ... everything works fine
.... then pc won't boot would cost me some aspirin right there. So instead
of having my head overhaul I would give you the basic standard information
so you can figure thing out yourself.
1. Each cable can handle 2 IDE devices.
I have never made HD slaved of CD to know how well it works, but don't
think it will cause any problem?
2. If 2 devices connected to same cable then one must be set to MASTER and
other must be SLAVE. If only single device then DO NOT set to neither
Master nor Slave (some very older hard drive may, but not newer one)
3. About the BOOTing problem. Make sure
- The BOOTing hard drive set to MASTER
- The BOOTing hard drive connect to IDE PORT-1 (or channel 1). The
motherboard has 2-ports and they are Port-1 and Port-2 (they walk like
duck, quark like duck so they ain't same ducks <g>) |

Thanks guys, I think the problem is that the DVD RW is master as well
as the CDRW- would this cause the pc to not boot at all? Also as long
as all other devices(apart from hard drive) are set to slave they
should all work fine??
Sorry about the headache! I am all new to this - my last pc was an
abacus |

| On each IDE there can be one master and one slave. |
