Now that they have products that can do 1920x1080, we suddenly find that
"Full HDTV" is better than "HDTV". We also find that the Japanese have
been defining HD resolution as 660 vertical dots:

Watch out! The marketeers are devaluing your 1388x768 displays!!

It all comes out even...they created 'EDTV" when no such standard

exists. 480P is now and ever shall be SDTV. So you gained at the
bottom and lost at the top!

480p is still better than 480i

1080i is HDTV. 1388x768 will work with 720p but 1080i or 1080p is true
hdtv.

Do most professional HD video cameras capture at a resolution of 1920x1080
or do most capture at a lower resolution and covert it to 1080i?

1920x1080, usually at a 23.98Psf frame rate.

I think EDTV is as valid as any other nomenclature or format. It is hugely
different from "regular" TV. I'd argue that the difference between NTSC and
EDTV is as great as the difference between EDTV and HDTV.

720p is also HDTV, just as much, and just as legitimately, as 1080i. There
is no 1080p HD format other than 24p (or 30p). Also, since this is what you
get half the time by watching the "wrong" format for your set (which doesn't
appear to disqualify it as HD), I'd argue that the actual minimum that
qualifies for HDTV is really 720i, no matter what the standards claim.

Actually it seems to me that current HDTV's are only being "devalued",
if you plan to sell yours. Personally I plan to keep mine, and the
current horizontal and vertical resolutions seem just fine for
anything that I plan to watch. As long as it meets your needs, it
should be OK. At some point ( I think this point) addingeven further
resolution does not seem to serve any real purpose.

Probably depends on how big the screen is and how far away the audience

is sitting.
