Often need to reboot to play a DVD after burning it |
|
|
Hi
I use Nero to burn an image to DVD-R. The image was created using Nero disc
copy. (In case youre wondering the original disc is my own compilation of
family camcorder video).
The images burn successfully and I close Nero and the discs tray opens. If I
then attempt to replay the disc immediately, I often find my drive will not
recognise that a disc is loaded or even if it does it wont play no matter
what software DVD player I try. However if I reboot my system (Windows XP
Pro SP2) the disc plays back without any problem.
The discs play fine in my standalone player.
I'm baffled why my system seems to hiccup after burning the images. I've
read that many DVD burning app's need to lock the drives for their own
exclusive use - could that explain it?
Has anyone else had a similar thing happen?
Thanks for any info.

It makes sense for the application to lock the drive while buring. I
think the problem might be your drive. Have you had any luck with other
buring programs? Could it be other CD burning/packet CD you might have
installed that caused the conflict? |

The drive is locked so that when you are burning a CD or DVD the
computer doesn't suddenly realise there is a playable disc in the
drive and attempt to start playing it.
Try using a 'software' eject. By that I mean right-click on your
drive in My Computer or Explorer, whatever and select 'eject'. The
drive should reset, then close the drive again. Works with me. |
