Failure to write to HP DVD840e during writing process |

Hello. I have an issue using my girlfriend's Acer Travelmate 4010 laptop using just about every software that I have used in the past to write a copied disc to the external USB HP DVD840e burner. Here are the details and what I tried:
Acer Travelmate 4010 - WinXP SP2
512 MB RAM
Media used - HP DVD+R 16x Lightscribe discs
Applications used - DVDFAB GOLD, Nero Burning ROM 7.7.5.1 (inside of Nero 7)
Okay, here goes my dilemma.
- Tried using DVDFAB GOLD (original copy of "Stranger Than Fiction" in her Acer, blank HP DVD+R 16x Lightscribe disc in HP DVD840e). The program runs fine until it makes it to the writing part. Then the 840e's light starts blinking and it makes it 1% and the light stops and program just sits and goes no further. At that point, CTRL-ALT-DEL is required to force the program to quit.
- Then got brainstorm to try DVDFAB again but instead of writing directly to blank disc, we saved files to folder on hard drive. Then we used Nero Burning ROM to try to write files onto blank disc and same thing happens (appears to write to blank but stops).
- Last thing I tried was using the same blank disc inside the HP DVD840e but I plugged the 840e into my MacBook Pro (using Parallels/Windows XP) and put the original disc into my MacBook Pro. Used DVDFAB GOLD and the project completed with no problems. It made a good copy of the movie with no problems.
Problem appears to be something in her Acer computer but I'm not sure how to correct it. I made sure that the HP DVD840e had it's latest firmware and her software was all updated/current.
Very baffled over here. Thanks for your assistance.
