Recording seminars, best mic. |
|
|
I have a job recording seminars where some times the teachers sit and
sometimes they stand/walk etc.
We currently use head sets, however the presenters don't care for them
so much. In the past the school used lavalier/lapel mics, but there
was a problem being that when they turned their head to the left or
right the sound was lost. I beleive that there are lavalier
microphones which do not have this shortcoming? Any ideas?
Run the sound through a Mackie Onyx board, than Motu for Digital
conversion to hard disk recording on Audio Desk. I finish by editing
and mastering and reselling Mp3 files to the students as study aids,
etc.
Thanks AQ

Omni Lavalieres are a PIA for live sound work. I would just use two
Lavalieres, one cardioid for the live audio, and one Omni for the
recording. The Countryman B3 is nice for the recording work. It's also
very small. Any of the Shure or Sony cardioid Lavalieres will work for
the live audio work. |

Not really. Any lav mike is going to do this, and the only thing that
will reduce it is to place it farther down, which gives you more of a
feedback issue with PA. An omni lav mike will be better than any of
the cardioids, but the omnis are probably what you've been using anyway.

If you have a bunch of channels, you can use a bunch of mikes. Pick
a lav mike on the guy, then a narrow spot mike mounted on the podium,
then an area mike that covers the podium and everything to the side.
Switch between these on the fly. It's a lot of work.
