Converting .avi files to a DVD format |

I have download several .avi files from various TV Programs and I have
been trying to use iMovie and iDVD to create DVDs that are playable in
a DVD player. My problem is that if I try to put 3 or more files on a
disk then the programs tell me that I have exceeded the time frame of
120 min. It seems a waste to put only two on at a time.
Is there a program or utility that will allow me to compress this to
fit
