Trying to convert an MPEG-4 movie I downloaded to DVD or even VCD. Can
anyone suggest a program to use. I've tried Nero, TMPGenc 3.0 Express
and TMPGEnc DVD Author without any luck.

John,

Here's a new MPEG4 encoder from MainConcept, an extremely reputable supplier
of video encoding software. This is a trialware version which watermarks the
video with a logo, but you can se if it works without cost or risk. It
should allow you to transcode into DVD or VCD formats directly. Some of us
on this newsgroup have used their MPEG2 encoders for a couple years, and
they get excellent reviews and ratings, and have been incorporated into high
end authoring and editing software from Adobe and others.

Good luck!

As far as I can tell, this is still a Beta Demo, and there is not
one you can buy yet. I tried the first Beta, and just downloaded
this new one. The H264 AVC format looks like the one to go
for. I hope they can get a final product soon, and that it's not
too over priced.

Luck;
Ken

I thought the cheapest Mpeg4 encoder would be the XVid Codec paired with
VirtualDub.......

Sorry to hear that. The commercially released product allows for conversion
both "to" and "from" the various formats, and apparently this beta version
does not.

Maybe somebody else here has some other suggestions.
