ac3 voices very quiet |
|
|
Completely randomly my AC3 audio has stopped working properly. I can hear
sound effects and music, but most voices are extremely quiet and inaudible.
I've uninstalled/reinstalled codecs etc. and fiddled with settings without
luck, anyone have any idea how to fix this?

I seem to recall this happening on one of my PCs some time back.
I can no longer recall why, probably because of installing a DVD
player of some ilk. At any rate, visiting here
http://sourceforge.net/projects/ac3filter/ and installing the
AC-3 filter did the trick for me.

Which player are you using? Is it definately using AC3filter?
Have a look at the filters used to play the file, make sure the gain for
the 'voice' channel is high (10 or more) and the checkbox is not ticked so
it stays that way. If you haven't already done it, have a fiddle with
turing DRC on and off, check the equaliser, make sure that 'Prefer AC3
Filter' is selected in the 'filter merit' section of the 'system' tab.

Tried Winamp, MediaPlayer and BSPlayer. I'm certain its AC3filter, the
properties box comes up. Changing the voice channel has no effect, neither
does fiddling with DRC. On some films changing the matrix to put centre
fully into left and right helps a bit, but its not perfect (and doesn't work
for most films).
The thing is though, this never used to happen... I can't understand what's
been installed to change it :| Films that used to work just fine now don't
work.
