How to edit JUST the Audio of a DVD? |
|
|
For the past couple of years I've been using Cool Edit Pro to do a lot
of audio editing on PCM .wav files that I "rip" off of my CDs.
Now that I am going to be getting a DVD 'Burner' for my PC, I was
wondering if the same thing is possible with the audio portion of a
regular DVD??
I know that CEP has a tool built-in that will allow me to Extract the
Audio only portion of a Movie File, but once I do the editing, there's
no way of somehow Re-Saving it back into the Movie File itself, and
instead I have to Save if as an audio only file-type.
I find that like commercial CD's, DVD's vary GREATLY in sound level
volumes.
If I wanted to Normalize the audio portion of a DVD, would it be
possible? As well, what if I wanted to do a little bit of compression
using the Hard Limiter built-in to CEP, would this be possible? Would
I have to use some other type of specialized software?
Anyone have answers to any of these questions?
THANKS!:)

Honestly, I wouldn't want the explosions in Terminator to be the same volume
as say prison scenes from The Shawshank Redemption, which would be exactly
what normalizing would do. There is a reason that DVDs have different
volume ranges and levels.

I , and I believe most others, prefer to use the dynamic range compression
settings on your DVD player or DD-decoder when necessary to do that instead
of actually editing the DVDs. Maybe give that a try first.
