Is it possible to edit VOB files and which software? Afterwords is it
necessary to edit the IFO file?
Thanks. J.L.

After I changed the extensions of the VOB files to mpg I was able to import
then into my Roxio DVDbuilder application and edit them there. When Roxio
burned the results to a new DVD it created its own new IFO file. All I
needed from the DVD rip was the VOB files. You could do the same in any of
the many DVD burning apps. I just happen to have Roxio on my computer.

Despite what some will say, just renaming the .vob files won't always work.
The .ifo files contain navigation data that describe how the MPEG data is
arranged in the .vob, it's not always sequential. You may only get the
first
Title or Chapter in the VOB and the rest error out.

Luck;
Ken

I have no doubt you are correct when it is a commercial movie DVD but what

I was editing was some files from a DVD I made from satelite with my
stand-alone DVD recorder. In Roxio DVDbuilder I was able to view each file
and trim, cut and paste it in the project to my satisfaction. I've also
used this method to edit files from a DVD capured with the same recorder
from VHS and Hi-8 video tape. I haven't really found any reason to edit
individual files from a movie DVD .
