Why component out on SVHS decks? |
|
|
I'm looking to transfer some commercial SVHS tapes to uncompressed
digital on my Mac. The capture card I'm using supports component video
in/out and XLR audio in/out so I'm looking at purchasing a used pro
SVHS deck to take advantage of these features. I know component
signals are typically only found on equipment that is higher-end than
SVHS yet I do see some SVHS decks with component out. Why is this? Is
there really an advantage to using a component signal with SVHS? If so
why do so few decks offer this feature; cost?
A couple of follow up questions:
- Are there any SVHS cameras that would work as well for this as a pro
deck? If component is a plus even with SVHS, are there any camcorders
that offer it? I expect I'd be better off with a dedicated SVHS deck
for this purpose and going with a camera that uses a format better
than SVHS.
- Any recommendations for a quality camera (analog or digital) that's
not DV? I'm planning to use this mainly for staged indoor (some
outdoor) shots where I can control lighting, ect and portability is not
an issue. I use a small DV cam when I need something easy to carry and
take quick shots with.
Thanks,
TB
