"I'm having bad luck with Nero Recode 2.

I've tried encoding some video for the Philips 642/37 using nero
recode. One of the problems is that Nero Recode encodes the
audio to aac compression which is not playable on the Philips
642/37. This is unfortunate because I thought that the .mp4
files that Nero Recode creates look and sound good. Maybe Nero
will add the option to encode audio to mp3 format in future
version or newer divx players will eventually play aac audio.
For another all in one divx video tool, you could try Dr. Divx.
It will create video that is playable on the Philips 642/37.

I have that player and do a lot of DVD > Xvid/Divx/VOB/DVD specifically for
that player. I do use Nero 6 Ultra as well for my burning. But I am not
familiar with Recode 2. Or maybe I am misunderstanding what your asking.
I have several good programs that make all of the mentioned conversions
quite easy.

Would you mind sharing the names of the programs you
use? Nero recode2 is part of Ultra under one of the menus
and seems to be like DVD Shrink. |

DVD > Xvid/Divx - "NeoDivx". I use the Smartripper option that is part of
NeoDivx to rip with all the settings intact. It will rip the VOB and ifo
files. Use NeoDivx's own Neoencoder to encode to any of the Xvid/Divx files
you desire. It can split bigger files at the 699 meg mark to put onto two
CD-R's. I keep it one big file as I back up to DVD-r. Only thing you do
really is specify a file to put the rip from the cd into and another folder
to put the new xvid/divx into.
DVD > DVD-r - "DVDShrink". I use this to do a movie into a standalone dvd
player. I backup the disk onto my hd (select a file like the other method).
I can then use options to remove unnecessary info from the dvd like AC-3
streams that are French/Spanish etc. Then, I usually let it do all the
compression itself and let it come up with a good DVD. It makes two folders
necessary for DVD burning Video_ ts and Audio_ts. These folders can be used
with Nero 6 to burn a dvd. I drag and drop the Video_ts folder from my
explorer window within Nero onto the Video_ts folder for Dvd template. Then
burn.
That is a pretty informal way of explaining it. But I copy Netflix movies
and have them back in the mailbox super quick. I live in a townhouse
community. I can get the mail, copy the movies (xvid is faster than full
rips) and put them back into another mailbox in the other end of the
neighborhood before the postman gets there. My turnaround time with netflix
has shortened. I will sometimes keep the best movie and return it a little
later.

Thanks. I appreciate the time you took to respond. If the Philips player
won't play AC3 audio, which is Dolby, right, then how do you do it?
I guess maybe I need to check out NeoDivx.

Re: Nero |

that is the one and only thing I have not tried. I have my unit hooked up
to an rf converter to provide a cable input to my tv. I have got to have
the only 27' in. tv without svideo or composite input. I also dont have a
home theater in the room I use it in. So I do not have the digital output
being utilized.
However, when I convert dvd movies, I have it save the AC-3 stream and the 2
channel stream. That way, I can use either sound ability.

Re: Nero |

I"ve got my computer hooked up through an RCA cable
to the TV in another room. I'm not sure if I want to spend
the money for S-Video Cable and try to string it in the same
way as I do now which fits nicely under a throw rug and
is smaller diameter than S. I'm trying to get the movies to
another TV with a Philips 642/37 in another room. |
