Maybe a stupid question, but when i buy a standalone DVD/Divx player, let's
say
he can play MPEG4 (divx or xvid ) i can play a divx on cdr.

On my PC when i put the subtitles with the same filename as the movie , like
:
The Rock.avi
The Rock.srt

With ffdshow i can play on my PC the movie ( with BSplayer) so that i have
the
movie and the subtitles on the bottom of the screen.

Is this the same with a standalone player like i have say here above ?

Depends on player. Usually those who can show subtitles, they say so in
advertisement

Speaking ONLY for the two players that I have, Philips DVP642/37 &
LiteOn 2001 - they play subtitles. Either will do so from CD or DVD
media. The Philips allows you to choose among several subtitle files,
the LiteOn does not (apparently only one subtitle file per disc, with
current firmware rev 302).

The Philips subtitle display text is far too small, the LiteOn is more
readable. Both are white lettering only. If you plan ahead when
making your Divx file, you can leave a black band at the bottom only
to make the subtitles more readable.

Make sure that your subtitles are actual srt files. Some subtitle files are
named srt but they are not. Use something like Subtitle workshop to view
the file, or save as sub rip file. My Philips player will not play ssa type
files.

This is a good point, tho the only problem I've had is with .SUB files
of which Subtitle Workshop, and I suppose other programs, support more
than one format with this extension. The Philips DVP642/37 actually
freezes when it comes across one of these files in a format different
than the one it's setup to handle. .SRT files have yet to be a
problem in either the Philips or LiteOn players.

Thanks for your replies guys !

Indeed it works with my new stand-alone player.
Just put the avi and the srt file with the same name in one folder.

Like : Troy.avi & Troy.srt

Just one point. When i see the subtitles at the bottom of the screen
the background shines a little bit lightgray.

Is that normal or can i do something on that ?

As it is possible to be caused that there are several subtitulos with
same avi?

According to they have commented to me, of the following way:

TheRock.avi
TheRock.fr.srt
TheRock.it.srt
TheRock.sp.srt

fr for French and it for the Italian, before srt, for the Spanish not
if he will be es or sp.
en for English¿?

Somebody knows if this is certain? As it works exactly, or single it
is possible to be had I subtitle by each avi?

Excuse me for my English, since I do not speak it.

With the Philips dvp642/37 divx player, you can choose any subtitle file you
wish to use while viewing the video. You are not required to have the exact
same file name like ffdshow demands. The only requirements are that the
subtitle file format and extension are correct for srt. I hope this answers
your query.

I have medion Md-48068 Pro2. I will prove to see if it accepts the
subtitulos as the Philips, or as they commented in the forum.
