I did see once a standalone player, which just shows subtitles, regardless
of movie, but i just can't find it.
The problem is that i have some movies in mpeg format and none of divx
players won't play it, except PowerDVD. i have also VobSub installed, but it
thinks that mpeg is not a movie, so it doesn't start subtitles.
IS there any way to show subtitles along with mpeg files?

For the PC, try the latest version of ffdshow. I don't know if the mpeg
codec for this program is fixed yet or not. If it is, it should play
subtitles for you. The ffdshow I am using was released last August, and
there have been a few updates since then -- you might try it out.

I tried it and it does show subtitles, but with great time shift. I managed
to synchronize them after some time, though. i had to set time delay to
2006000 ms...?!?

If you got the subs to show that's great. Download subtitle workshop

http://www.urusoft.net/products.php?lang=1

Timing the subs is very easy with this program. When you are done, save the
subs as sub rip (srt) file.

Good luck

i do have this program. Funny part is that timing is correct in subtitles,
it's just i don't know which time ffdshow actually uses when it shows
subtitles, since as i said, time is not counting when playing a mpeg
movie( it's always on 0:00:00)...if i run same subtitles with any other
codec, like divx or xvid, it's all OK...just mpeg is a problem.
