Progressive scan dvd player on pc monitor beneficial? |
|
|
Hi, if I hook a progressive scan dvd player to my video card (ATI
All-in-wonder), will the resulting image be better than a standard dvd
player or from the built-in dvd/cd combo drive, and if so, will the p-scan
image be better to use for further editing/copying? Thanks much,
DannyKewl

If you can import footage via a composite connector,
then yes, it will be better. If you are going through
regular yellow rca, then no.

The "regular yellow rca (sic)" carries composite video. There is no such thing
as a "composite connector." You may be confusing "composite video" with
"component video". There is no such thing as a "composite video connector"
either. On many DVD players, a set of RCA connectors is used to carry component
video (one each for red, green, & blue). Others use a SCART-type connector; yet
others use a 15-pin D-shell connector similar to those used by Sun and Apple
video monitors.
Except for very high-end DVD players (industrial/broadcast), component video
output is often worse than S-video. This is because the component video output
must be synthesized by the player's internal electronics, which adds another
(noise-generating) step to the data decoding and decompression process. With
cheap machines, you get cheap synthesis.
