Picture doesn't look right |
|
|
Hi, can anyone help me out?
I have an avi (xvid) but the people on screen look long and so does
everything else. (mediaplayer)
I guess this would show up on my screen with standalnone player also, after
burning to DVD.
What should I change or do?
Gspot: says:
29,971 FPS
Frame 720 x 480
FAR en DAR 3:2 (whatever that may be)
Thx, Rico

A very interesting and useful feature of the LiteOn 2001 MPEG4
savvy player is that, when playing AVI files, ZOOM has axis
independent step adjustments (both positive and negative). One
or a few flicks of X &/or Y controls and your otherwise
incorrect picture displays perfectly. Likewise, you can shape
the frame in favor of one axis, if you so prefer.

It's widescreen. If you convert to MPEG2 and then _author_ DVD-Video, you
need to set 16:9 flag in MPEG2 after/during conversion.
If you intend to play AVI directly, depending on your TV&player, you may be
able to select a proper ratio. I can force widescreen mode on my TV and I
usually have to do this for NTSC DVDs as my bloody player does not send the
proper switching signal when playing NTSC... |

Odds are that the source material is set for widescreen, and set to fill the
image at 720 x 480, quite common, you simply either re-size vertically, add
bars top & bottom, or crop off the sides a little.

OK, thx, I guessed it would be widescreen. It is just that I've had enough
other movies that were widescreen and still looked ok on the computer
monitor/
My TV (Philips widescreen) has several modes that it can be set to (i.e.:
16x9, 3/4, 16x9 subtitles, etc)
My DVD player can play both PAL and NTSC.
So I understand I have to just burn the movie (well, maybe set the 16x9
flag) and then let the TV sort it out?
Rico.

Yes, it will do. If you convert it to MPEG and then author a DVD-Video out
of it, set the flag. If you are going to keep it as AVI, just burn it as it
is. You may need to switch to widescreen manually with your TV remote in
this case.
AVIs from widescreen material are usually made in a correct viewing ratio,
in this case the author decided to keep dimensions of the DVD picture, which
is always the same, regardless of whether it's 16:9 or 4:3. It's DVD
player's job to ensure a proper ratio, either by sending this 16:9 info to
TV or by adding letterbox bars. |
