20,000 dollars on speakers. I won't make enough money around our area

No sir. I am not what you call a troll. I believe I posted a legitimate
question. Similar to you, I am in a small town with very few dealers within
100 miles of the area so I don't get to demo a bunch of systems. Since I
personally don't know 'how much' better the expensive stuff sounds, I was
looking for answers on the audible differences between cheap stuff and good
stuff... and perhaps an explaination why.

Thank you for the information. I really nevered looked into
Yorkville. I
looked at the U15 and the TX4. They seem about the same price.
Which of
these do you recommend? The specs on paper look about the same. The
biggest difference I saw was that the U15 is 4 ohms and the TX4 is 8
ohms.

Between the two, I'd be more inclined to go with the U15. The new horn
technology is much smoother sounding, and the ability to array them 3
wide is a big plus. Since you can array them tightly, you can get more
coverage and more output when you add more then one box per side. 3 a
side could net you over 131 dB of peak SPL for the highs and more for
the lows.

I know most of the true pro's here give us small guys advice,
and it's great don't get me wrong. However, trying to justify
a $1500 cabinet when a cabinet priced at 1/2 to 1/3 will do
90% of the performance is really tough.

Understandable. Here's another twist to the thought process. What
about used gear?? There's a lot of quality, high end used gear out there
that can be bought for a decent price. Yes you need to be careful. Also, a
lot of time you can find a complete system. For example a company might
sell of a KF850 rig (racks, stacks and cabling).

Just curious about this...

Who sources the drivers for higher end PA units like EAW, Myersound, etc?
Obviously, EV and JBL make their own. But, can lower sales volume vendors
like EAW design and build their own drivers?

NO..I know that EAW uses Eminence drivers. Most manufacturers have drivers made
to fit the application or design around existing drivers. Others will have more
specific info, I'm sure.

Is it at the factory in Mass? I was there for Smaart School but didn't have
time to check anything out.

I spent about 8 hours there in the r&d labs , the demo room, the most
interesting place was the wood shop or possibly the "boneyard"

Yeah, my class was in the demo room. I would have liked to have had time to
demo a bunch of their products in the same place.

I would LOVE to see EAW's boneyard. I once has a client that had EAW Hi-Fi
type speakers, They had a dome mid. Nobody at EAW could identify them, we
scrapped them, I wish digital cameras were around then!
