I seem to recall that I read that Virtual Dub could to be used to merge 2
different MPEG2 files into one. If this is true would any chapter markers
in the old files be retained in the new file? If not is there any way to
add chapter markers before encoding to DIVX?

Is the same things possible if you used VOB files?
