New learnings with DivX - Source footage, sound sync, etc |
|

Ok where should I begin. I'll try and state this as clearly and succinctly as
possible.
1. What I did was broke down and got DrDivX. So far so good. As the input source
for the Dr., I was using DV footage exported out of PP using the MICROSOFT DV
compressor.
The video output from the Dr. was excellent. The audio was excellent. But the
video-audio synchronization absolutely SUCKED. (Would be interesting to learn
exactly how DivX goes about syncing audio with video).
Anyway, exported the very same footage out of PP using the dvcs_MainConcept DV Codec
2.4.3. MUCH better audio-video sync. Although I'll confess I have no idea why.
The DivX files I now export using the PP/Mainconcept/DrDivX combination are
acceptable and of fairly good quality. The video will now play in both DivX Alpha
Player and WMP.
Question: On my somewhat slower machine (700MHz Celeron), is it normal to find the
video getting out of sync with the audio? This, as you might expect, doesn't happen
on my 3.06GHz P4.
But why is that other Divx files, even at high bitrates, don't seem to get out of
sync on my slower machine? Perhaps a little stutter and jerkiness, yes. But the
audio still seems to "keep up" with the video.
Any tricks to syncing audio and video with DivX?
