Hello,

I'd like to buy my parents a digital camcorder, but I lack to
knowledge to make my decision on what to buy.
Do you know any website where I can read reviews of different
products, considering that I'm willing to spend eound 500$?

Thank you in advance.

I personally like the Sonys but with your budget I would look into
what Canon has to offer and would not get less than a MiniDV camera.
Stay away from the cheaper Hi8, etc. Also, keep in mind what they are
going to do with the tapes. Most people use a firewire port (most
cameras do not use USB) which you can install for $20 in a PCI slot if
the computer does not have a firewire connection. Since you did not
specify what the hardware is it is difficult to specify what to do
with the files captured to the computer. Also, keep in mind that
older computers will not edit the captured files very well. Then keep
in mind the time and frustration making output.

Of course they could just give someone the captured files to edit and
produce. That someone will probably be you or some close relative
that does it for a hobby.

I would strongly recommend the sony hi-8.It's still produced, and costs less
than 500 euro. The quality is excellent, and the tape (8mm and Hi-8 will
exist for many years to come).Or, if you can find a 8mm camcorder in stock,
do get one.The results far outweigh the price.ANd you can record VHS tapes
from it (everyone has a VCR, while not every dvd player can play dvd-r,
dvd+r etc).I got mine 8 mm camcorder just for 400 euro with credit, model ccd
tr425e pal.

You have made quite a name for yourself making stupid statements here! But this
one takes the cake. The current crop of Hi8 is pure crap, hardly up to VHS
quality.

thank you vary much for your answer!
I've tried to learn all I could aboud digital camcorders in the past
week, so I'd like to know what you think about the Canon MV750i.
I've read that it's good for outside videos, but the inside ones are
very dark.
Is it true? Are there other camcorders at a similar price that perform
better in inside videos?
