conversion to AVI |
|
|
Hello!
I got a movie clip encoded to .wmv format. Can anyone tell me which
prog should I use to convert it to .avi? I tried virtualdub 1.5 and
1.3c but doesn't work...

If you find nothing else, you can go through MPEG. TMPGEnc can convert
from WMV format to MPEG and you can convert MPEG to AVI with VirtualDub.

Sorry for doing this per partes, another idea - use graphedit. Start with
render media file, then replace video/audio renderers with compressors, add
AVI mux & file writer. |

Offhand, I'm not aware if it's possible to make such a conversion.
However, post your question to the bulletin boards at
http://www.videohelp.com and perhaps some can help you.
RivaScoot
In Linux, if you have mplayer installed, type: |
mencoder movie.wmv -oac mp3lame -ovc divx4 -o movie.avi
Then play it:
mplayer movie.avi
38 duplicate frame(s)!
For more info type:
man mencoder
Actually I get 'duplicate frame(s)!' messages, but it plays back OK.
YMMV (and with diffrent evrsions of mplayer too).

So it will be like cheating for exemple virtualdub? I need to cut the
clip a little that's why I wanted it in .avi format.

It's not cheating, it's an alternative way how to process media files. I |
also normally use VirtualDub, but from time to time GraphEdit is necessary.
Like when I want to process some exotic file or extract closed captions from
DVD.
If I can play a file on my machine then GraphEdit can build a graph of
components that are needed to play it. Then I take decoded audio/video
signals, feed them into compressors, mux the result and write it into a
file. It takes a few minutes to get used to, but it's a great tool. IIRC
it's a part of directx SDK, but it can be downloaded separately. |

Seconded, this works a treat here. Mencoder can convert any format that
MPlayer can play (which is about all of them) to AVI without a hitch.
As a bonus to the OP, with LiVES (which is mostly a frontend for
MPlayer/Mencoder), you could directly import and edit the WMV and export
the edited media to an AVI, which would save a couple of steps if I
understand what you are attempting to do correctly.

Is GraphEdit a frameserver then like AviSynth? I've only ever used AVS,
but I think I'll try GraphEdit now too. Additionally I don't know of a
WMV AVS plugin.
|
No, it's not a frameserver, or at least I am not aware of such a
possibility. But you can insert an AVI codec into the graph as one of the
components and "play" the graph. |
