My sister gave me her old tv.

The problem is the manual is in Japanese (she got it in Japan), and
she wasnt much help, she knows how to turn it on and thats about it.

I went to the website, but couldnt find a manual for it.

Its a Panasonic.
On the cover of the manual, there are two product numbers:
TH-36FM10 and TH-32FM10.

I looked on the site and didnt find anything like this.

Its a widescreen, but I dont think it is plasma or HD.

How should I go about finding a manual in English for this?

Thanks

It looks like this is a Japanese market TV, not for use outside of
Japan. A Google web search on the model numbers finds nothing but
Japanese or other asian language entries. The newgroup search found only
one English post from a UK group from 1998, and it mentions they are
Japanese market, and may be similar to forthcoming UK models:

Be aware that Japan uses 100V, and the TV may be damaged running on
120V.

The only difference between the two models is the screen size (36" or
32").

That sucks.

We have a converter for it.

The problem is, I only know how to turn it on and off.
Its widescreen, and 1 of the buttons makes the picture stretch out, or
back into a square shape.
But there are 4 versions of widescreen, and each one looks the same to
me!
lol.
Thats why I want a manual, so I can use the tv to its full potential.

Thanks

I assume the menus are all in Japanese, too? Sometimes, if you go
through them, there might be one listing language changes, with multiple
languages listed. Or maybe someone who knows Japanese can give you a
picture of the most common Japanese characters to look for that might
stand for Language change in the menu. Alot of Japanese stuff I've seen
sometimes contains bits of English.

If the wide modes are anything similar to my Sony, they may be:
Normal: Display 4:3 material with side letterboxing.

Full: For anamorphic DVD's. Simply stretches the full 480 lines
horizontally. If done with normal video, makes everything look squashed.

Zoom: Stretches sideways and chops off the top and bottom. Designed for
letterboxed TV and non-anamorphic letterboxed video.

ZoomWide: non-linear horizontal stretch. The middle of the screen is
normal, but increasingly gets stretched as you move to the sides. Gives
a wide screen without too obvious funhouse mirror distortion.

Maybe you can look through the US Panasonic site and see if manuals
can be downloaded for other TV's. Maybe you can find one with a similar
menu setup, or even a similar TV, which might give you some clues.

I dont even know which button to press to get to the menus!

lol.

The big problem is, the remote is in japanese.
It has a lot of buttons, and then...the front panel of the remote
flips down and there are more buttons!
What I mean is, the front has all these buttons, and then it flips
(buttons also) downward to expose more buttons. Weird.

Yeah, I think the button I was pressing was doing these.
I like looking at the manual, so I can know whats what...and also what
are all the buttons on the remote for.

Thanks for all the help
