Hi Billy Joe,
thanks for your quick answer, I appreciate your suggestion via PC to TV.
I knew that would work, but it's just too inconvinient for me.
I'll also try converting with VirtualDub. I knew that you could convert ac3,
but thought that the outcome would be only a wav file.
Thanks again
greetings from

The SRT files were made with SubRip so I think they're correct.
It looks like the end time for the last subtitle in the file is the
right time and the line turns off normally when played on the computer
with Media Player Classic, but nevertheless with the DVP642 the final
line often remains stuck on the screen until the end of the video
file. Another time the SRT subtitles began playing over again from
the beginning during the ending credits of the AVI video.
Another bug with the DVP642 was brought to my attention in the AVS
forums, in that the progressive scan output won't stay on through an
on/off cycle even though the system menu says it's on. Progressive
scan output has to be reset each time you turn on the player.
I verified that this problem is present in my unit which came with the
0531 firmware. |

It would be nice if Philips offered an email notification when the next
firmware update becomes available. I contacted Philips' Canadian office to
inquire about a subtitle display glitch on my player, and no one could
answer my query.

Which one should I use? Graphical or text? Which one is most compatible

lot of work but it may be the only thing that will fix it. You can find
all the hardware drivers at the computer brand website if you don't have a

reformat for now. The new WMP 10 does the same thing.

Hi all,
I've installed WMP 10 and XP SP2 (don't know if it is the reason, please
do not reply what you think about Ms ) but now I can't burn DVD in the
same way as before (WinDVD Creator 1.0 for the directory skeleton + Nero
6.0.0.0.11 for burning)
Now the DVD I burn doesn't work anymore on my home DVD player and I can't
see the movies on my TV.
I tried to download last Intervideo WinDVD Creator 2, but doesn't seems
to work better.
I've read somewhere that it could be the DVD authoring program but it was
working a month ago...
Is there a solution?
TFYH,

Just a little added precaution. I know you said you don't want to hear a
rant about ms but.
I put off buying XP because of their "registration process". But I finally
bit the bullet about 4 months ago. The first time I did a reformat of the
hard drive like "Just Me" says is a good idea (which I agree with), I had to
call Microsoft on the telephone and explain why I was reformatting my hard
drive.
After navigating through all of the phone commands you will finally get to
the point of entering the 7? groups of 6 digits that were produced by the XP
installation software.
You enter the numbers 1 group at a time to a voice recognition software
program. When completed the message says "that number has already been
registered, transferring you to an operator." This operator which can barely
speak English because they are located in another country, wants to know why
you formatted your hard drive. After they have heard and believe your
explanation you will have to recite the 7? groups again because their
equipment doesn't remember your original entry. Then they recite back
another group of 6 digit numbers that you have to enter into the XP
installation.
I know that MS has to do something to prevent privacy but this is
ridiculous.

Bill Gates and probably a hundred unsung workers made billions off of
programs like DOS and then Windows 95 and 98. And that was several years
ago. How much are they making now on Windows XP? Its another one that's on
90% of the computers everywhere you go.

I connected the DVP642 to my projector via component only. I assume
component sends ONLY progressive, am I right? If that is the case,
progressive stays on even I unplug the player. I am running ver0409.
I read from somewhere people "loss" the progressive scan after upgrade
to ver0531.

No, you have to set progressive in addition to component (YPbPr) out.
Player losing its progressive out after a power cycle might only
affect version 0531. |

Try un-checking the box for low bitrate padding in TMPGEnc. |

Brian, you are right, I stand corrected. Yes, one has to set 1) video
out to YPbPr AND 2)Progressive On. However, my point is, you will
get a blank screen if you connect with component and progressive is
OFF (p. 16). I hope that is what it meant. My configuration is
exactly what it said in the manual, componets out to projector and
progressive set to ON. However, I "failed" to appreciate the video
difference between component and composite! This is very
disappointing as we learned from the book, that, component is supposed
to achieve higher resolution. Any comments from the expert?

P16 says that you get a blank screen if you activate progressive scan
in the player, but the component input on your TV doesn't support it.
You should have a movie that you know well, where you can easily see
the difference between progressive scan on or off. This might be a
scene where there are a lot of nearly horizontal fine lines. If you
can't think of a good example, then you can often see the difference
in ending credits that have small fonts. When progressive scan is
off, the letters look wiggly scrolling up the screen, and when
progressive scan is working, the letters look much more solid. |
