Has anyone tried using M1D for live music? I've a friend who might have
to do this long term and wants some advice on bringing the rig up to
standard.
On paper it looks like a speech box.

I use them everyday. I have 34 of them hung L, C, R in a 1200 seat
proscenium theatre. we do a wide variety of live music, dance, theatre,
etc...i use 2 of the meyer 650P for subs.

Hi Jonathan - thanks. Where are you? Also, what sort of live music are
you doing? I suppose I'm wondering if they've a full enough sound for a
rock act.
Thanks for that

IMO..nothing is full enough for a rock act without subs..at least not the
way I
like it to sound.

Quite ;)
If I sounded like they were going to be used with no subs.... that's my
mistake - of course there will be subs. It's just opinions on the line
array boxes I'm after, from people who've used them for live music.

I can cope without the subsynth, though one of my regulars did a small gig
(not engineered by me) as support - never seen so much processing on a kick
drum - 2 dynamics units (behringer), an aphex and an SPX on the kick...
needed it though as the kit sounded crap acoustically.

Gavin:
I'm in NJ, USA. Pics of the rig are on meyers web site. the 650 P's
pick up all the sub on the floor. i forgot to mention that i have a
pair of the M1D Subs flown in the center. as far as rock acts, we've
done a bunch. Lately the loudest i remember was 'Southside Johnny' a
loud, blues rock band that has been around the US forever. We were
105db C at the house which is 54 feet in front of the stage.
i mix a lot of different stuff: jazz, 'world', folk, theatre, and rock.
would i do metal or anything really hardcore with these? no.
would i have these as my only rig if i was a sound co. that did
one-offs? no.
but this was the PERFECT solution for our situation. great coverage,
more than powerful enough, and they sound great.

a pair of 650P's under the stage, and a pair of M1D Subs in the air.
enough sub i can knock plaster out of the ceiling. THEORETICALLY, if
anyone from the theatre is reading this :-)

Phildo:
i have an old DBX120, started using it around 93, loved that sound
forever, but I'm not into it lately, since i dont get to mix
electronic/dance anymore... I am sort of stuck mixing more
'conventional' bands. for kick i use a 52/91 combination, and if the
drummers kick really sucks, I have a sampler in my rack. but i dont
tell him that...

i guess my point was that the boxes can be used for a lot more than |
speech!

I think we agree on this from past posts..I am trying to convince a lot of
people of the advantages..I also have a Waves MaxxBass rack unit on the way to
check out.
