IR illumination with JVC camcorder? Would it work? |
|
|
Hey all,
I'm going to be doing a little low/no budget documentary that will probably
involve a lot of outdoor night stuff. I love the look of the green IR stuff
(like on Survivor), but I'm considering a JVC miniDV camera. I'm just
wondering if I construct an IR LED light (say an array of 10 LED's or
something) would I even see anything?
Or, would the JVC camera already have an IR filter built in with no way of
me removing it?
Sadly, I think this is the case isn't it?
Worse comes to worse, I can always make the array out of white LED's but
then I wouldnt' get that neat green IR effect.

I don't know what type of cam you exactly think of buying, but check out
the specs before doing that. There's a good chance that IR-shooting with
that so wanted green stylish effect is part of the cam itself.....
I have a Sony 8 mm digital camcorder and that offers IR-shooting
possibilities, offering just what you want. So if Sony can, JVC can too I
think.

Hey man, this is exactly the problem.. for what I know, Sony owns the patent
on that night shot technology. Using IR LED's to light up the scene. Goes to
show you how fucking stupid the patent system is, that's why cameras like
JVC's night shot is just to expose the scene for like a whole second,
resulting in 1 FPS.
