Hi
Is it possible to dub from one digital camcorder to another
with a 4 pin fire wire cable without going through the computer?

Yes.

Connect the camcorders, play the source tape on one camcorder and
record on the other. Both should be in VCR mode, I believe...

Yes - I just checked three manuals I have downloaded. Only one (for
Canon Elura MC20) gave instructions, and it says use VCR mode.

If you're in Europe, though, I understand from the NGs that camcorders
are often unable to accept input for recording. This has to do with tax
laws. However, there are sites (maybe newsgroups too?) with info about
hacks to fix that.

BTW, set the write-protect tab on the source tape. Mistakes happen...
