I authored my first DVD the other day using Nero. I selected an AVI
someone had sent me. When I play it back in a set-top DVD player or a
computer, the menu works fine, but when I select the video I can hear
it, but the screen is all black. Any idea what I've done wrong? The
AVI plays fine on my computer, and after I 'loaded' it into Nero I
could even move forward/backward in it to select a frame to be used on
the menu.

Thanks,
-Ryan

Did you use Vision Express 2 or 3? If 3, discard and return to 2.
