Do these things really work.

Is it just hype?

What's in the black box?

I haven't actually tested these devices, but there's a lot about their
description which just doesn't make sense to me.

Most significant to me is the fact that both of the pictured models
(the type you hook to the amp's speaker outputs, and the type you hook
to the output of the source component) appear to be connected to only
one stage of the audio pathway. They don't look at the inputs and
outputs of any given stage, and correct them (either via feedback or
feed-forward). They may be modifying the signal as it passes, but if
so they are doing so in complete disregard for what the signal was at
any earlier stage in the pathway, and without any knowledge of what
the subsequent stages are doing to it.

I would not be personally surprised if the contents of the black box
were to be based to at least some extent upon exotic lipids derived
from various ophidians.

Color me as being rather sceptical.

In the absence of a clear description of what they are supposed to do, who
could tell?

Looks like.

Probably just resistors and/or capacitors despite the apparent claim that
there are also nonlinear components inside.

How do these people look themselves in the mirror every morning?
I guess you're not as likely to be caught and prosecuted as if you
used a gun and a mask to rob a convienence store.

Presumably they do it on the way to the bank.

Exactly.
