I think the compatibility is partly because the current DL disks are +R
Isn't the Pioneer supposed to be able to write -R DL?

No. It does not appear in the specs nor in the retreived information in
Nero (but of course no -R DL discs commercially exist yet).

I have a large video collection I want to transfer to DVD. I'm waiting
for dual layer discs to be available in the US. As I understand it,
the capacity of today's rewiteable discs is only 2 hrs.

Ant idea on when recorders with greater capcity, ie Blu Ray or dual
layer will be available in the US?

Jerry

I think almost every major manufacturer makes a dual layer DVD capable
device.
My LiteOn 832S records DVD+R DL, as does even my old 451S and 851S
(with firmware updates, of course). The problem isn't finding the
recorders, it's finding the discs, which still are in short supply.
Since the demand exceeds the supply, the prices are about 10 times too
high.
