Just got the new Philips DVDR610 recorder which has been advertised as being
able to read JPG files stored on a CD. ..but when I put in my CD with my
JPG's on it just reads it and says 'unknown data'! Thing is I also have a
Philips DVD/VHS player and that displays the photos fine. Wondering now
whether I have a faulty unit... any feedback appreciated!

thanks
Mike

Have you read the 1st section on page 62 of the User Manual ?

This error occurs with DVD+R discs that have not been "finalised"

Apparently unfinalised discs are very sensitive to dust and
fingerprints etc.

It also describes a "repair process" where you have the disc tray open
(with the dvd sitting in it) and press and hold "5" on the remote
until it closes.
If it is "recovered" the pictures will appear.

Not sure if this applies to Cds !

Also, have you read the last section on page 29 ? JPEG picture discs.

The JPEG file extensions HAVE TO BE .jpg AND NOT .jpeg
Also will ONLY display "STILL" JPEGs and NOT "Motion" or "Progressive"
JPEGs.

All this may be a red herring but at least you now know if you didn't
before.
