I have a TRV-38 which has worked beautifully for the past year. I used it
two weeks ago and had no problems. I got ready to take Thanksgiving video
and the image in the viewfinder or the side screen looked like long smears.
I played back previous images from a tape and the memory stick also and they
played back perfectly in the viewfinder and screen. I recorder through the
lens and played back fine but the image was the long smears. I charged
battery and tried again. This time with the camera cut to camera or memory
all I get is a totally black screen or viewfinder. All the functions work
fine, the touch screen works fine, zoom, record ( but just totally black
image). All work fine. Plays back earlier tapes great. Does everything
right but get an image through the lens. It is like I have the lens cap on.
I have changed everything in the menu that could cause this effect. Went to
manual exposure and ran it all the way open. I just can't figure how it went
from working fine to not just sitting on the shelf for two weeks. It does
not even have that many hours on it. Sony wants 279.00 on their web site to
repair it. Anyone have any ideas. Contact me at Swamptrader@cox.net . I
guess I could just use it as an editing and playback deck.
