At the risk of being flamed by the DVD police, how do I overide the
copy-protection on a commercial DVD so that I can make a back-up copy? ;-)

DVD_Shrink worked best for me (then uses my Nero for auto-burn).

Tried DVD_Decryptor & Smart-Ripper. Got my VOB's, IFO's & bup's, but
Nero would complain the files were not dvd compatible. I tried one burn
anyway -- stand-alone DVD player would not play disc. I could play the
disc on my computer.

Still a mystery to me. :~(

Thanks for the info, I had asked a similar question a few postings earlier.
Down loaded the software and burning encrypted DVDs now successfully using
Roxio Easy DVD Copier that I bought for £9 in PC World
Cheers

I keep getting a 'Programming Error....cannot continue' from DVD Shrink
(latest version) on a double sided double layered disc. The program
completely misinterprets the structure and time.

Sorry to hear that. Does shrink get lost on all your DVD's, or just
this one? If so, you'll have to try some of the other programs. :\

From the top-

Copy the DVD to your hard drive with DVDDecrypter. Use the default
settings. Close DVDDecrypter.

Make sure you have Nero on your system.

Open DVD Shrink, Use the default settings, Import the VOB "video" files
(as one block - not as separate files) from your hard drive. Load a
blank into your writer while Shrink does its stuff.

Go out for a coffee or a beer.

Come back to a finished, perfect disk waiting in the DVD tray.

Regards,

Marv

Aha, so I still need to use DVD Shrink in the mix. Thanks for this clue.

If the total file size of the dvd you are trying to copy is greater than the
size of your blank dvd(which is almost always the case with regular non
dual-layer media), of course you have to use DVD Shrink or some other tool
to reduce the bitrate to fit it into 4.7Gb..

Right. I understand this part.

What's still a mystery to me is :
a) I used DVD-decryptor and CSS'd only the main movie
b) the main movie was just under 4.7 Gigs (no compression necessary)
c) When I used Nero's DVD compilation option and dragged all the
VOB's, etc. to make a burn - Nero "analyzed" files and said
not DVD compatible. I burned anyway as a test. This disc
would not play on my standalone dvd player. Played on computer.

WHen burning with Nero, since its already been authored and everything, you
can just burn a data dvd with the correct UDF settings and finalizing
disc...

Seems I still need DVD_shrink to make a playable movie on a standard DVD
player. (?)

I haven't ever tried letting shrink do the burn (I believe it can).
