Looks like standalone DVD recorders are under $200 now. No more capturing
video on my computer and burning to DVD (a pain in the ass). I will have a
recorder by Xmas. At this rate they will be around $100 in 2005.

Roaming around Amazon this weekend and a little impulsively I bought an

Apex recorder DRX9200 , ended up after shipping rebates etc at $134 ,
ordered it Saturday and it arrived Tuesday. It's very basic , it's my first
recorder and I may regret it , if so I will give it to my kids and get a
better model . I only bought it to make copies of old VCR tapes

better than spending $200, i would never spend so little anyway, i only just
bought the Panny E500 to compliment my E100, so i certainly havent gone the
cheapo route, and am much happier for it.

Well, if I have to throw away the money, then I would chose to throw a
little at a time. Me, I don't think more expensive is always better or
other way around.

I am a hardware junkie, and I often chose to pay more for the FEATURES I
need/want at the time, but I know too well that paying more doesn't (always)
mean getting better. Last month, I just spent nearly 2 grands of photo
studio equipments (saved quite a few $$$$ from eBay)

Just forget about the DVD recorder for a moment, but go for real life
instead.

Gasoline for example, you can find many different prices between Gas Station
and states. Or the cheaper one with discount-card means getting poor milage

Soft drink, paying more at gas station, some quick-shop stores, vending
machine etc. doesn't mean it has better taste than you pay less in grocery
store.

P.S. Well, the reason I replied because the word "shit" and "shithouse"

Well, I don't own any and of course I wouldn't by all the $200 DVD
recorders to confirm myself. If you try to compare the features between
$200 and $500 then I probably have to agree with you that the $500 probably
have more feature, better build etc.

If one of the better features of the $500 unit is it will work correctly
when new, and be working 6 months from now, then thats all that matters.

I've had no problem with my $250 dvr - and have gone through
about 350 disks since I got it last spring.

The problem that 6 months later your new $500 will become old and dated,
may no longer worth $50-100. IOW, you end up with throwing $500 shithouse
all at once instead of thowing 5-10 times <g>

Actually, few months ago your $250 DVR may cost more than Biz's new $500,
and if you go back to around a year or so then your $250 DVR may cost 2-3
times mailet's new $500 shithouse <g>

Looks like standalone DVD recorders are under $200 now. No more
capturing
video on my computer and burning to DVD (a pain in the ass). I will have
a
recorder by Xmas. At this rate they will be around $100 in 2005.
