Printer dilema |
|
|
Its my birthday and I've got people to chip in towards a Canon eos
300d which arrives soon and I have also ordered an Epson PictureMate.
Despite the limitations of the LED screen and the 6x4 format the rave
reviews about the picture quality sold me on it. Meanwhile my lovely
sister turns up with a big present which turns out to be a HP
Photosmart 7762 printer. While I like the idea of the colour screen
and the ability to print bigger pictures there are very few reviews
around for this printer. Does anyone know how the print quality
compares to the PictureMate? Does anyone know how the costs per print
compare to the PictureMates well advertised UK 29p/US 29c?
These kind of dilemas always bug me far more than they should so would
appreciate any help at all.

Don't panic, it's a good one. It's got 6-colour inks, 4800dpi photo
printing, direct printing from memory cards and does borderless A4. The
print quality is as good as anything else on the market for anything like a
comparible price. The only reservation is the print speed. It is a little
bit slow, taking about 2 minutes to print an A4 photo. I really like the
styling of the HP range. To my eye they looks a lot nicer than the new Canon
Pixma range.
As for printing costs, if you print 6x4-inch photos you'll find the costs
are roughly the same. HP inks are quite expensive, but definately worth it.

I have just bought the Epson Picture mate here in the U.K.
I find the results are excellent & a replacement cartridge with 100 sheets
of 6x4 cost as little as £15 for none Epson replacements which makes the
cost of 15 pence per photo well worth it.

Ironically, the 2:3 format of the 300D exactly matches the 4x6 output of the
Picture Mate, so this is a good thing!

Re: Printer dilema |

There are quite a few portable/small printers out there and I am
somewhat in the same dilemma.
I am also curious to see how a 300dpi dyesub output would compare to a
1440x1440 ink jet printer. Are there any comparisons out there? Or
personal experience?
Thanks,
Leith

A dyesub compares very well to any inkjet photo printer out there. Canon's
CP-220 4x6 dyesub for $150 is a very nice little printer.
