Hi all,

I have a Sony dvd rw (du-rw18u I think) with a bit of a problem. It will
only show as a dvd rw when the tray is ejected or there is no disc in. When
a blank dvd is inserted, it just shows as a cd rom and I cannot write
anything to it. I select the correct device (using Ulead VideoStudio) but
it will only write to an image file, not to the device itself.

I have upgraded the power supply to 500W (as suggested by someone else) and
disconnected all other devices. It has worked once, but with not making any
changes to the system, it won't do it again. I have checked the firmware
and it is the latest version, tried to find updated drivers, changed the IDE
cable around, tried all combinations of cable select/master/slave, but
nothing seems to make any difference.

I flashed the firmware so it became a Liteon (apparently that's what these
Sony dvd rws are), but that didn't work either.

I've now run out of options, so would appreciate any help at all.
