Is thre any drawback buying a DVD- only capable model such Panasonic
or Pioneer which I see very well reputed)? I am concerned about
another format war (e.g. most of PC DVD-R support just DVD-R)

The candidate is also a Sony (HGX-900): any opinion on it and a
benchmark against its Pioneer and Panasonic competition?
