I recently followed some of the discussion here about sizing prints for 4x6
format. I found the presets for the crop tool for 4x6, 5x7 etc. in PS CS.
I tried this out and now I can't seem to get back to the normal crop mode.

No doubt there's a very simple solution, but I'm not all that familiar with
Photoshop. I did trash the 4x6 preset and that did not seem to help.

Thanks for your help.

In PS CS, choose the Crop Tool, and look in the Options bar (default, top of
screen). Choose Normal Mode. It should be set to either Aspect Ratio, or Set
Size [don't have CS up and running, so the actual verbage might be different,
but you should be able to get the idea]. Unless you change your Preferences,
whatever Aspect Ratio, or Set Size, will come back, should you change from
Normal Mode. Let me know if this is not clear, or if I have mis-named the
Modes so badly, that you cannot make sense of it. I'll crank up the program
and get the exact phrases.

Humm..... Sorry, I don't follow. Is there a simple way to get back all the
default settings? I'm afraid I've really screwed things up here :-(

Thanks much.

You can try restoring all preferences to their default settings but I don't
know if that's what you're looking to do.

From PS help:

Press and hold Alt+Control+Shift immediately after launching Photoshop or
ImageReady. You will
be prompted to delete the current settings.

New Preferences files will be created the next time you start Photoshop
or ImageReady.

So are you saying that when you have the Crop Tool selected, hitting
the CLEAR button just to the right of the FRONT IMAGE button does not
clear all crop settings?

Minou,

Sorry, but I lied to you. As I stated, I didn't have PS up and running, and
just got confused a bit - pretty normal for me, really. In the Crop Tool
Option bar, there are two windows for values to be added, height and width,
plus a "units" drop-down, i.e. pixels/inch, etc. Just Delete any values, so
that the windows are empty, and the Crop will be unconstrained. Sorry for the
confusion. Others have mentioned booting up PS with default preferences. If
just clearing the windows does not work, take their advice. Last, you can
locate PS Preferences files (different location for different OSs), and then
re-boot PS. New Preference files will be written.

I apologize for my errors in my earlier post.

Ok now. Everything seems pretty much back to normal. I restored the
familiar tool bar using Window > options, then I was able to find my way to
Reset All Tools in the tool options menu (left of the height and width
boxes).

I appreciate the help. Thanks.
