Win98 and Pioneer DVR108 problem |
|
|
Hi all
I'm possibly missing something here...
I have recently installed for my aunt a Pioneer DVR108 in her p3 PC -
theres a little issue though...
Using any blank DVD-R/rw is no problem, but she bought this to duplicate
some of her family videos, which she painstakingly recorded via her DVD
Recorder (Grundig) - and wants to make some copies of , quickly (plus
her existing CDRW went bang a few days ago!)
However....whilst I can put the disks in my PC (win2k, athlonxp, 768MB,
home brew, Pioneer DVR107..etc) and they read ok, when dropped into her
pc (p3 800 512MB RAM, win98se - Packard bell) they lock the pc totally -
as they seem to do on another 98se (PB Celeron 433, 98se, Pioneer
DVD103) machine. - Ive got one pc spare which if i get time, i'll throw
98se onto and see what happens!
The other thing I intend to do is see if its the media type...
only one thing springs to mind - its the Grundig recorder writing to
the DVDR in some way that stops it being read in a DVD Drive - some sort
of non standard format (i note a VIDEO-RM folder on the disc, guess
thats the menus??) - Yet it reads ok on my pc - is it a 98se problem, as
I'm guessing it can't be the writer, it's newer than mine!
She's a little peeved!! - all i can think of is a firmware upgrade to
cure it...
all help greatfully received!

Assuming autorun is enabled for the drive, inserting the DVD should be
invoking whatever DVD-playing program has been installed. So what
program is that? Perhaps it has a problem with these DVDs. Do
store-bought DVDs play OK? |

Hi
Theres no DVD-Playing software on it ! (Theres a DVD Player and TV in
the same room!)
Store bought DVDs read OK, and don't lock the PC up....so I am guessing
its an OS upgrade job!
Thanks
