I have an hd cable system the tuner of which has a firewire port (that the web says is enabled on this box). Also, I know I can set programs to automatically play on it. My questions are 1) if I buy a cheap firewire port card and cable, can I directly feed the hd signal into my computer and store the hd data? 2) if 1) is true, can I selectively store signals because I don't want to record 24 hours of stuff just for 2 hours of shows for instance, and 3) since my pc's video card has dvi and my tv has dvi, I assume I can play the output back to my tv or do I need special software for that and finally 4) is it worth it or should I just pony up the 20 - 30 bucks a month for the two needed tivos from the cable co?
