S-VHS vs VHS output quality with tapes recorded in VHS mode? |
I am about to begin the process of transferring about 100 VHS, VHS-C, 8mm and MiniDV tapes to DVD. The tapes are of average quality and 22 years old to present. I will use the pass-thru feature of my Sony DCR-TRV17 for the VHS, VHS-C and 8mm tapes to transfer the video/audio to a computer with Firewire connection.
The basic question I have is: Should I just use one of my standard VHS players for the VHS and VHS-C tapes or should I go out and buy a new S-VHS player? I have read other forum discussions on the pros and cons of the old vs new, as well as consumer vs pro model JVC systems.
[b]DO I REALLY GET A NOTICEABLE IMPROVEMENT IN VIDEO QUALITY USING AN S-VHS PLAYER WITH TAPES ORIGINALLY RECORDED IN VHS FORMAT? IF I WILL, THEN IS IS WORTH THE EXTRA $100-200 TO GET A JVC SYSTEM WITH TBC?
