Omnidrive outputs. |
|
|
Having major issues with level outputs from me Omnidrive. is a 388 (the 2u
one)
Just as a basis.
Running Martin W8 and W8S
4 Way (18inch/ hornloaded 15/ 2xhl12 and then hl6.5 and hl1 passive)
amps from the bottom up.
on te 18's DIGAM 7000
on the 15's DIGAM 5000
the twin 12 QSC PLX3402
the himid/hi another PLX3402
my problem is the output level from the omnidrive on the low mid / himid/hi
side of things.
I keep the amps levels at the top but there never seems to be enough output
from the unit to power the qsc amps.
Even with the limiters set right at the top i cannot get the right sort of
level to the amps without overdriving the omnidrive.
Is there any unit (a decent one) that is going to suitably boost the signal
or the like to get a better input level to the top amps.
Last night in a rather large venue i was really strugling to get the vocals
through the mix befor the limiters kicked in. the bottom end was merely
ticking over.

That is very strange. The FDS-388 has a maximum output on all band
passes of +20dBu, which is more then enough to send any amp into heavy
clipping. The only issues I can think of are 1) the bandpass level
setting in the software are set low 2) a problem with the actual driver
outputs for those band-passes 3) someone sneaked a large value pad
inside of your XLR connectors coming out of the unit (I've seen this
happen in some editing system installations I've had to troubleshoot).
It seems unlikely that their would be a problem with the output stage
of the band-passes, but anything is possible. Have you tried a hard
reset on the unit yet? If you haven't, that might worth a go. Make sure
you back up your settings first ;-)

The BSS units, especially the newer models, are good units. If the
budget can handle it, the XTA's are the way to go. Good stuff, very
pricey. But those are nothing compared to the Lake Contour both in
price and versatility:
