Among speaker projects I am contemplating, now that I am retired, is a
1972 Bailey t-line system. The cabinet seems no big problem; Bailey has

all the necessary measurements in his article. Driver choices and
passive three-way crossover deisgn seem much more difficult. My budget
is not impressive, so I would like to build the crossovers myself, but
I don't know enough to design them. Any recommendations concerning
choice of drivers and crossover design are welcome!

The original Bailey TL uses vastly obsolete drivers, either a combination of
Radford BD25/1, MD9/2 and TD3/2 or Kef B139, B110 and T27.

I wouldn't wnder about the xover before getting hold of drivers...

That seems wise. So what drivers should I use?

There are thousands of drivers and as nearly many TL designs... Check for
instance http://www.t-linespeakers.org/ as a start.

I have done that, and that is why I decided on the Bailey 1972 t-line
model, and it is recommendations for this specific enclosure I am
asking for.

An enclosure is linked to the drivers used. A Bailey is basically unusable
if you don't have the right drivers.

One thing I can tell you - you will never regret building them. I used
to have a pair before Management decided they were too big and they
had to go (sob) and I have never heard - with one exception - anything
like them. They could rattle windows at 50 paces and with very little
power, but best of all was the deep down detail, especially the pedal
reeds of a pipe organ which no other speaker that I have heard before
or since could manage.

The exception was the Cambridge R50 which was basically the same
design in a different shape.

Look at the Wilmslow Audio site - you never know what he might have.
Failing that look for a pair of secondhand TDL R3's - not quite the
same but getting there.
