i totally cofused the sanyo is atsc and ntsc. but isn't buying atsc
tuner a wast of money. and how will that effect my tv veiwing.

If you want to watch HDTV or digital TV over the air (not using

satellite or cable) you need to be close enough to a broadcast and have
an ATSC tuner, either built into the TV or as a set-top box.
If you are going to use a cable companies set-top box instead of the
ATSC tuner, then not having an ATSC tuner won't affect your viewing at
all. Same goes for satellite.

The NTSC analog tuner lets you receive Analog TV Programs from an
antenna or Cable Co RF (radio frequency) cable...

The ATSC digital tuner lets you receive Digital or HD Programs
from an antenna only.

and for more info:

A QAM digital tuner lets you receive unscrambled Cable Co
digital SD or HD programs from a Cable Co cable...
