Hi,
I have a problem with the Lite-on LDW-401s in that the pc dosn`t see
there being a dvd writer present. It will read cds, and write cdr(w)s,
and it will play dvds in windows media player classic (although not in
windows media player 9. But I`ve tried recording a dvd in easy cd
creator, Aurora Media Workshop, and a couple of others, and none of
them can see a dvd writer present. I`m completely new to dvd writers,
so I`m not sure if there`s an actual problem, or if I`m missing
something obvious.
Would appreciate any help.

Mark

Are you using XP? I would go to Control Panel, System, Hardware, Device
Manager and see if the DVD drive is listed. If not you may have to load a
driver that came with the Lite-On unit. If it is listed you may need to
double-click on it and reload or update the driver. I don't have a DVD
player in my computer but I imagine that since it is dual function it may
require two drivers.

They don't need drivers. Make sure it is mounted properly - the

master/slave jumper is set correctly and it is connected to the
correct connector on the cable (if set to master it should be on the
end connector). DVD burners don't like to be slave.

If that is OK then I would try going into device manager and deleting
the DVD drive listed, if there is one. You might be better to try
this in safe mode. Then when you reboot Windows should detect it and
load the correct driver.
