Trying To Play DVDs Closes Power DVD 5 |

I got a LG DVD Rom drive which I connected to my Windows 98 computer
with a USB to IDE cable. The drive was supplied with Power DVD 5 to play
DVDs.
When i try and play a DVD Power DVD opens and then closes.I have also
tried to play DVDs with real player no joy here either. i can read the
DVd files in explorer and if i click on a "vob" file" Power DVD still
opens and closes.
The drive works fine when used on my laptop (xp) and i don't want to
install it internally on my PC as there is already a cd/rw installed and
the drive I am talking about is a (new) cd rom/dvd rom machine.
Any clues on what could be the problem . Could it be because i have
Windows98 first edition ?
