Hi,

we did a recording with a Mackie HDR. Now we have the broadcast wave
files and the project file (.prj)

How can I import the files to a pc? What (free?) software can I use?
We want to mix it with samplitude 7.0, but we have to import the wave
files. Doing it with every single file and putting it to the right time
is very hard.

Regards, Tom

Hello Thomas,
as far as I know, there are only 2 packages available that can do the trick:
Mackie Traction and Soundscape 32. One is cheap and the other is very
expensive. But I don't know any freeware. I'm facing the same problem.
I will probably replace the Mackies against Soundscape

So what's wrong with a little hard work? Rake my leaves and I'll import
your HDR files for you.

The secret is to use the RENDER function of the HDR. Hopefully you
still have access to the Mackie recorder. When you render all of the
tracks, you'll end up with one file per track (in addition to all the
little chunks - it doesn't destroy anything) that will have all the
pieces, punch-ins, edits, and any gain changes that you may have made.
If you think importing 24 or fewer files is too much work, you should
consider another line of work.

You really don't want to buy Tracktion just so you can import Mackie
HDR projects. Samplitude is much nicer, and besides, you already know
how to use it. Mackie did come out with the HDR Pro version of the
HDR24/96 software that allows you to export a project as a ProTools
session file but they never kept it up with ProTools, and it's no
longer available anyway. One of these days there will be a standard for
DAW project/edit files that will allow interchangeability, but until
everyone is willing to give up their secret processes, that isn't going
to happen.

If this HDR recording wasn't a one-shot deal for you, buy my book The
Last Mackie Hard Disk Recorder Manual -
