Mounting Flat Panel on Brick |
|
|
I want to mount a plasma above the brick fireplace. Installers seem to shy
away from mounting on brick.
Anybody had any problems?

Personally, I wouldn't put it there anyways, it is too high for notmal TV |
viewing. |

for what its worth, a buddy of mine has an LG 52 inch plasma above his
fireplace (drywall)
Uncomfortable to watch unless your living room is deep and you are
watching at the furthest end of the room, in my opinon. Funny that I
read this post since I mentioned to him last night how I felt his TV
was mounted too high. But in all honesty, there is no other
fitting/appropriate place to put it.
Anyway at your home watching TV on the floor will go to bed with a sore
neck. But fine for his family i guess.

I could have it 5 feet off the floor and that wouldn't be too high. In any
case there isn't anywhere else to go with it unless I rip out a book shelf
which is not an option.
I had one installer tell me he would use anchor bolts in the brick rather
than go through to the studs. That seems to be workable because I have seen
stairways, shelving and other structures bolted to brick outside. A second
installer said that technique would gradually pull the brick out. I think
that is B.S. A third installer wants to go through to the studs. Prices
range from $1000 to $200 for an hours worth of work and the bracket. |

It all depends on of the brick is a veneer, or semi structural. |
If the former, you need to go through to the structure, if the latter,
anchors will do. |
