I have an RCA Directv Tivo Series 2 with 2 turners DVR40.

I was wondering if I can upgrade the hard drive to a bigger size (I
have a 240gb Maxtor drive I want to use, don't care if I don't get all
240gb)

Can someone help me or point me in the right direction.

I am very experienced in modding stuff (playstation 2 , xbox and
directv)

Google "Tivo Hacks" should give you lots of information. Here's the
site I used a couple of years ago, there may be better info out there
now.

Yes, you can copy the current drive setup to a new one and expand it to use
the additional space. Search for the Hinsdale and Tivo to learn how.

You'll basically pull the drive out of the Tivo and use a PC to handle
copying the old one to the new one and then adjusting it's size. Not
entirely sure which models of Tivo can or can't use a drive that large
though. I think most recent S2 rev units running the current software can,
but check first. I've got a pair of 120gb drives in my RCA DirecTivo.

Thanks all for the info. I used Hinsdale How-to Tivo upgrade and it
worker fine. I went from 35hr to 120hr, but the program said I had
147hr, guess my Tivo only recognizes 120hr. It also fixed the problem

This is normal for a DirecTiVo; the mfsrestore process guestimates based
on standalone TiVos. The value reported by the machine itself is good.

matters to me. I had so much fun playing with it i am thinking about
playing with Zipper "I think its called Zipper, the one that enables
the USB ports"

with the list loading very slow and sometime not at all. I think my
hard drive was about to die. I wanted to upgrade for about a year now,
but my wife wouldn't let me. Thank god it start missing up on her,
gave me a chance to play. Thanks again……..

I used the procedure at
http://www.thewallens.net/tivo/Tivo_unguide.html
which enables networking and bash and stuff, (although I didn't install
superpatch, because I don't need much from it) and used rbautch's
package (linked from that page) for other useful stuff like USB2.0
