When windows media player upgraded to v 10 it stopped playing DVD disks.
Error message says no codex is loaded or availible. Is there a free one that
comes with the version 10 upgrade? Can version 10 be removed and ver. 9
reinstalled with the proper codex?

WMP10 does not come with the ability to play DVDs. Buy a plug-in here:
http://www.intervideo.com/products/custom/ms/windowsxp/media_pack.jsp

Because of licensing requiremnts there are NO free players.

You should have other dvd playing software installed which gives you the
codec, such as windvd, powerdvd, search for yours and then update this from
the manufacturer.
