I'd like to get your perspective. I'm printing larger (12"X11") photos
on an Epson R1800. My DPI selection on the printer is "Best Photo"
which I believe is 1800 dpi. Some of the photos I want to print at this
size I have cropped quite a bit and the resulting images are at 60-70
PPI.

What would be better? Resample the photo in Photoshop to 240-300 PPI
and risk some softness, or leave it as it is and risk some print dot
density? Are there other variables I am not considering? I want to get
the sharpness print I can of the cropped photos.

Thanks for your thoughts.

It all comes down to whether the print driver or Photoshop will do a

better job in interpolating pixels.
I would generally up sample in Photoshop where you can have more
control and view the image before printing. 60 - 70 PPI is very low
resolution for a print and will most likely look pretty soft regardless
of how you do it.

Thank you for all your thoughts and advice. I'll try and do it the
smart way next time by shooting a closer shot. This one image though
was really sweet, and I was hoping to go big and clear. I'll try the
"step" sampling on this one and compare it to the printer driver.

Thank you again.
